Waiting for Columbus
What a great album
Little Feat's Waiting for Columbus is. Geez.
It's been several years since I listened to it, I think. I have it on vinyl, and made a cassette tape, which I listened to (in my car) until it became unusable. But I received it on CD for Christmas (thanks to Mrs. Beckley!) and listened to part of it on my way to work today.
Yes, Yes, Yes, Atlanta....
It's really kind of cool listening to music that you know really well and really like after a long absence like that. Many of us are so inundated with music now that it probably doesn't happen that often.
I saw Little Feat live on the Mall in Washington in January 1993 as part of the festivities leading up to Bill Clinton's inauguration. I was just walking around down there for reasons I can't remember, and walked into a tent and there they were. I only saw the end of "Dixie Chicken" but that was great. All of those middle aged Washingtonians swaying back and forth standing on their portable chairs....
I remember on that same occasion I happened to run into an old friend of mine down there -- he was walking around on the Mall in the cold with his wife and baby daughter. I took some pictures, I should dig them out and look at them. His daughter's probably 17 or 18 now, geez.
Little Feat was always really popular in Washington, I don't really know why. Part of
Waiting for Columbus was recorded there, at GWU's Lisner Auditorium.
