The 50s, nostalgia, and what was gained and lost

An excellent piece by Ron Dreher on the differences, both positive and negative, between the pre-60s American culture and the post-60s culture we live in now.

I'm not as down on the current age as Ron Dreher appears to be, but he does explore the conversion from loyalty/submission to the community to loyalty to the self that I think is a key part of what we are today.
 
Q: What's the difference between the city and the suburbs?
A: Plenty of free parking!
